Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

Witnessing the Natural Beauty of Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens

Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York, is the borough's largest park and is a breathtaking, vibrant, and amenity-rich oasis. With Flushing neighborhood on one side, and Corona on the other, the park offers a vital green area in the heart of Queens. It’s a place where those looking for peaceful respite can find it, and it’s a place where families can come together and enjoy quality time in the great outdoors or make use of the many facilities. The Queens Zoo, Queens Museum, a Carousel, and the New York Hall of Science are all part of the park complex.

The 3,000-acre park is in the heart of Queens, flanked by LaGuardia Airport and the Unisphere sculpture to the north and Citi Field to the south. You’ll be inspired by both the history and nature of Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The park also features several monuments, fountains, and sculptures that help to bring the garden to life. Whether it’s the majestic Fountain of the Planets, the soaring Unisphere, or the monuments that commemorate significant events in New York’s history, these sculptures will provide a lasting impression of the beauty of Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

The park began its story in 1936 when the parcel was commissioned for use to be the site of the 1939-1940 World's Fair. It started out as a bleak landscape, and was transformed into a place where a hopeful future could be felt and imagined. For two years, millions of visitors flocked to the fair, and walked the promenades, marveled at the architectural installations, and toured the exhibits. The park was also the site of the 1964 world's fair. Vestiges of these fairs are still standing in the park, and are currently being restored to their original grandeur and to be ready to the public for tours.

The park is much more than a site for fairs, though. It is also an extensive recreation complex for locals. Sports courts like tennis courts that host the U.S. Open and cricket fields, an indoor pool, expansive trails, and water sports all are housed inside the park's domain. The park has wide walking trails that also welcome bicyclists. The extensive lawns are perfect for picnicking, and the park has many bathrooms throughout. From its humble beginnings of an ashy landfill, it became a vibrant oasis of nature, with lush green fields, tranquil lakes, winding paths, and various recreational opportunities. For many, the park serves as an escape from the busyness of the city where they can relax and enjoy the views, whether it's of Meadow Lake and or the art installations by renowned artists.

Visiting Flushing Meadows Corona Park is sure to be a memorable experience. The park uniquely blends art, culture, recreation, and natural beauty. Here, you can take in the majestic sights and sounds of the great outdoors while also enjoying the comforts of the city. Whether you come to relax and unwind or explore and discover all the park has to offer, one thing is sure: Flushing Meadows Corona Park won’t disappoint.
