In the Manhattan borough of New York City, we have many historical buildings, such as brownstones, churches, government buildings, and museums with awesome ornate roofs. No matter how beautiful the form or design pattern of the historical roof, it is still a vulnerable element of shelter that will need some TLC at some point. Delayed maintenance will accelerate the deterioration of other historical building materials, such as masonry, wood, plaster, murals and the structure overall. For these reasons, action must be taken quickly to get a temporary patch in place before any historical restoration inside is undertaken.
When contacted for a free consultation, Skyward Roofing makes a complete external and internal inspection of the historical building to determine all the issues and to identify the options for restoration or replacement of the roof and roofing materials. We respect the beautiful ornamentation that exists on the roof and façade and we will take the utmost care to ensure its safety.

There are four basic roof shapes:
- A single-slope roof is like a lean-to because it uses one pitch for the entire structure. Historically these roofs have been used for smaller buildings like sheds, garages and porches. These roofs can be torn off in high winds unless properly reinforced. Secondly, if the pitch of the roof is too steep, you will lose space on the lower end of the dwelling.
- A gable roof is the most popular roofing style in the US. The roof forms a triangle over the building, and two slopes meet in the middle to form a peak. It is a simple, inexpensive roof to build that will easily shed precipitation.
- A hipped roof is like a pyramid with all four sides of the roof meeting in a high point. This type is great for all types of extreme weather. Heavy winds and snowfall can’t do much to hurt this roof, but it is a bit costlier to build since it is more difficult and requires more material to build.
- A flat roof is great if you want to make use of more space within the dwelling and have features like a rooftop terrace or garden. However, they do require upkeep since without of much of a pitch they can quickly gather debris and heavy snow amounts, and the materials that flat roofs are made from are often not as long-lasting.

Flat Roofing
Commercial buildings often use flat roofs to save on costs and because air conditioners, duct work, sprinklers, pipes, and exhaust vents can be placed on the roof to increase usable space within the building. Residential flat roofs, can be used as a deck, or for other design purposes. Flat roofs need to be regularly inspected to check for ponding, ensure that the roofing material is in good condition and the seams are sturdy, and to clear drains.
|
Metal Roofing
Metal roofs are a popular option for home and business owners looking for a roof that is long-lasting and has a variety of design options. Metal roofs can come in straight metallic finishes like aluminum and copper, or painted in bright colors for a splash of color. Metal roofing also comes in tiles to look like other types of roofs like Spanish clay or slate! We work on both residential and commercial metal roofs.
|
Shingle Roofing
Asphalt shingles are one of the most popular roofing materials in America. This affordable roofing option is also extremely weather resistant. Shingles come in many colors and also a few different styles. Skyward Roofing can talk with you about the options available, and the various storm ratings that are available. For example, some shingles are designed to be extra resistant to moss growth, or wind-resistant.
|
TPO Roofing
TPO is an acronym for the chemical composition of Thermoplastic Polyolefin. Thermoplastic means a material that softens when heated then hardens as it cools. This is the key to TPO roofing's unique feature of having heat-welded seams. TPO membranes are used on both residential and commercial flat roofs. Call us for any TPO repair, replacement, or maintenance you may need.
|
EPDM Roofing
Also known as rubber roofing, EPDM roofs are generally black in color. These single ply membranes are used for flat roofs on both houses and commercial buildings. EPDM roofs last for decades, and are easier to maintain than TPO roofs. However, they are not ideal for restaurant roofs as they are more susceptible to damage from grease.
|
SPF Roofing
SPF Roofing stands for spray polyurethane foam roofing. It is a great way to extend the life of your current roofing system and can be a roofing system in and of itself. It is often applied over the top of an aging flat roof and provides an impenetrable layer that both seals small holes and improves insulation for the building. SPF can be renewed by scraping it down and applying a new coat of the material.
|
Slate Roofing
Skyward Roofing provides service for slate roofs in Manhattan NY. Many older homes and buildings have this long-lasting roofing material installed. The dark gray rock is exceedingly durable, fire-proof, and weather-resistant. If you need repair for your slate roof, or want to replace it, give us a call for a free quote.
|
Waterproofing
We offer roof coating services to keep your roof in great condition. Polyurea and elastomeric coatings give your roof a barrier between damaging UV rays and the durable membrane beneath. New TPO roofs shouldn't be sealed too soon, so we will first assess your roof and see what condition it is in. Waterproof coating can be done on many flat and metal roofs.
|
Roof Inspections
There's really only one way to know what condition your roof is in, and that is with an inspection from a licensed and experienced roofer. With over 25 years of experience in the field, we will conduct an inspection that lets you know about any upcoming issues and can provide input to help prospective buyers, budgeting purposes, or to provide peace of mind that your roof survived a storm unscathed.
|
Chimney Services

Skyward Roofing has the chimney and roof experts needed to keep both your roof and the chimney in great condition. We provide chimney repair, repointing, and demolition. Whether you want to stop a leak or improve your chimney, we can help!
|
Gutter Services
Commercial and residential gutters perform an important job - they channel water and direct it to a specific destination. This helps prevent erosion at your building's foundation and on flat roofs, it moves the water off of the roof. Whether you have seamless gutters, box gutters, roof drains, or other water drainage systems, we have the equipment and know-how to take care of all of it.

About Manhattan, NY
- The high-rise expensive elegance of Park Avenue and the Upper East Side trails away into the well-known neighborhood of Harlem to the north and Greenwich Village to the southon the Lower East Side.
- Upper East Side Historic District is one of New York City’s largest districts with many historic brownstones and opulent apartment buildings.
- Greenwich Village on the Lower East Side was a rural village in the 17th century with a rather organic spontaneous street layout when the Commissioners Plan of 1811, decided on the grid pattern for the settlement on Manhattan. Greenwich Village was allowed to keep those streets that were already built up resulting in a modern neighborhood whose streets are dramatically different in layout from the rest of Manhattan. Many of Greenwich Village are narrow and some curve at angles which most people consider as charming and highlighting the historic nature of the neighborhood.
- Manhattan has more than any other small metropolitan area to offer in the way of historical sites, museums, things to do, parks to visit, places to live, places to work and of course all the wonderful stage plays showing on Times Square.
- Manhattan Borough is world renowned for its massive collection of skyscrapers, cultural museums, Park Avenue, Central Park and the financial district.
- Park Avenue just like in the Monopoly game has some of the most expensive real estate in the world. For example, square footage for a Park Avenue address sell for several thousand per square foot.
- Manhattan is home to famous Central Park
