Central Park Carousel: A Historical Attraction in New York City

The Central Park Carousel is an iconic landmark in New York City. It is located in the heart of Central Park and is one of the park's most popular attractions. The carousel has a rich history that dates back over a century, and generations of New Yorkers and visitors alike have enjoyed it. Learn information about New York, NY.

The carousel was built in 1908 by Solomon Stein and Harry Goldstein, and it originally had 72 hand-carved wooden horses and two chariots. The horses were adorned with natural horsehair tails and glass eyes, beautifully painted with bright colors and intricate designs. The carousel was powered by a steam engine and had an ornate band organ that played music during rides. Discover facts about Exploring The American Museum of Natural History.

Over the years, the carousel has undergone several renovations and restorations to preserve its historic beauty. In 1950, it was converted from a steam engine to an electric motor. In the 1990s, the carousel was restored and repainted to its original colors, and the band organ was restored to its original condition.

Today, the Central Park Carousel is a popular destination for families, tourists, and anyone who wants to experience a piece of New York City history. The carousel operates seasonally, from April to October, and is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. A ride costs $3, and children under 42 inches tall must be accompanied by an adult.
