History
Opened in 1973, Ancient Playground in Central Park was designed to celebrate the Temple of Dendur exhibit and encourage children to explore and play on the Egyptian architecture-inspired elements. The playground is built on the adventure idea, where kids create their own play experience on the various features. There is also sand and water features at the very popular playground. The playground is known is for being clean, well-maintained, and a favorite among families. The Ancient Playground underwent a major renovation in that updated its facilities but preserved its historic character.
Features
The playground's centerpiece is a massive pyramid structure, complete with slides, climbing walls, and tunnels, offering children a thrilling and imaginative play experience. Surrounding the pyramid are sand pits, water features, and jungle gyms, providing ample opportunities for exploration and physical activity. There are also plenty of shady seating areas for caregivers and parents to sit at while keeping an eye on their kids.
