Historic Richmond Town: A Walk Through History

Richmond Town is a living history museum and one of the most fascinating communities on Staten Island. Nestled between New York's two great rivers, the town was founded by English settlers who were sent to populate this area of land that had been recently ceded by the Native Americans. Richmond Town has preserved over 100 years of American history for all to see - making it one of America's oldest continually operating historical sites. This is where it gets fun! Historic Richmond Town in Staten Island, New York was founded by the City of New York Parks and Recreation Department. You can find this historical location right on Arthur Kill Road, between Bloomingdale Rd and Woodrow Rd. The history behind why people have taken such an interest in these old structures goes back even further than that however - from 1696 until 1840 there were many different uses made out of these buildings including farms, schools, cemeteries, homes and more! Today you will be able to visit 17 structures throughout the entire town here at Historic Richmond. Historic Richmond Town in Staten Island, New York is a great place to visit for families. Historic Richmond Town gives visitors the opportunity to walk through time and experience life as it was centuries ago! Visitors can explore the entire town, including homes of early Dutch settlers, cottages that were built by freed slaves after emancipation, or even hear about Staten Island's history at "The Farm". There are also exhibits on local Native American populations who have lived here long before European settlement. History buffs will love exploring this old village! It features several structures dating back more than 250 years with an original courthouse from 1695 still standing today!
