• Residential and commercial have 3 options of asphalt shingles to choose when replacing an aged roof. Pretty much the quality goes from good to better and finally best.
  
• 3-Tab shingles have been discontinued. These shingles used to be the most commonly-used shingle, but new advancements have mad them an outdated option, and now architectural shingles are the go-to basic shingle.
  
• Dimensional or architectural shingles are laminated shingles, multi-layered to produce a 3-dimensional look on a roof - providing more texture than the phased-out 3-Tab shingles. These shingles have replaced 3-tab shingles because they are thicker, more wind-resistant, and last longer. Their multi-layered construction gives an aesthetically pleasing shadow effect to the roof. 
  
• The most expensive is Premium or Designer shingles are often made to look like a more expensive natural material, such as Cedar, Slate or Clay tile. They are the most expensive as they are the most durable- heavier with a better protective top shield. They usually have a lifetime warranties about 50 years. However, very few homeowners stay in their homes more than 13 years and the warranties are not generally transferable to the new owners. Premium shingles are also laminated shingles made to look like natural shingles made of wood or slate for a roofing system that mimics traditional luxury shingles. They usually have lifetime warranties because they are a very substantial shingle with improvements of impact resistance, UV-rays’ reflectivity and a longer lifespan (50 years or longer) over the regular 3-tab shingle. Luxury shingles are the most expensive type of asphalt shingle available- many times they are just out of budget for most families.
• Performance shingles have different features and benefits to address a variety of issues. If you are concerned about a specific issue, you can choose a shingle that will withstand that concern better than standard shingles. Some things that these shingles get boosted performance in are fire-resistance, wind-resistance, and resisting algae growth.

• Asphalt Shingle Repair While it feels obvious that a roof needs repair when it is leaking, sometimes there are other times that it needs preventative maintenance. • If you notice large amounts of granules coming through your downspouts, it may be time to check the condition of your shingles. These look like hard round grains the same color as your roof. If there are lots of these ceramic granules missing from shingles, piling up in the gutters and coming out of downspouts, with bare spots starting to appear on the shingle, it indicates an aging roof that needs to be replaced. Ceramic granules cover the top of the asphalt shingle help prevent detrimental effects from minor collisions with blowing debris and disperse the sun's UV rays, reducing damage. When a lot of ceramic granules are missing, the shingle will appear bald and will be more susceptible to damage
